LOB Rebacked Scam Guide (Photos & Information Courtesy of “Schloast” on Instagram & YouTube):
There are two versions of LOB with English-text fronts:
1) North American English
2) Asian-English (has English-text front with an Asian Yu-Gi-Oh logo on back)
Fraudsters are now “rebacking” cards, meaning they are peeling the front off of two cards (a valuable Asian-English card and a common English card). They are sticking the Asian-English (peeled) front to the front of any already peeled blank North American English back card. Since North American cards are exponentially more expensive than their Asian-English counterparts, scammers are trying to “swap” or “reback” an Asian-American front to any old North American card. This gives the illusion that the LOB card is indeed the coveted North American version and not Asian-English version (since Asian-English cards also have an English–text front).
Thanks to user “Schloast,” there are four checkpoints to protect yourself from this scam:
1 (White Box):
There is lack of the foil alignment marker present on all 1st Edition North American LOB holos in the bottom left corner.
2 (Red Boxes):
Perfect alignment of foil and image on AE cards. All NA LOB cards have small image alignment issues, and glossy holos tend to have tiny foil shifts too.
3 (Green Box):
OCG eye of Anubis vs TCG. OCG version is smaller, more rounded and often appears darker/matte compared to the TCG one.
4 (Yellow Box):
Foil bleed. Asian-English cards typically have much more prominent foil bleed than North American cards.
5 (not shown, only applicable to ultra rare cards):
The gold lettering for ultra rares is thinner than the lettering used for glossy ultras, and also not grainy like wavy ultras.
BGS reported graded a LOB-001 Blue Eyes White Dragon (BGS 7.5) that was sold in a June 2021 PWCC auction. This is a serious concern and should be shared so others do not fall prey to this scam.
